Skiing Holidays in Slovakia

Slovakia as a new winter destination is a fantastic site for skiing & snowboarding, providing wide area of ski resorts. The Slovak Republic is an ideal place for winter sport lovers. Almost all mountains are suitable (and most of them properly equipped) for skiing & snowboarding. The trails in ski resorts are for beginners, so it's a great place for starters and you will find the trails for intermediates, and for more advanced skiers as well.

Slovakia has something for the skier at every level. As a participant sport, downhill skiing may be the country’s favourite: you will find ski racks on trains, tiny ski runs in the most surprising places.

The best skiing in Slovakia is, of course, at the highest altitudes. Therefore most resorts range geographically from Donovaly (near the central Slovak city of Banska Bystrica) to the north, and from there easterly to the High Tatras. These resorts boast most of Slovakia’s longest and most challenging runs, at least some of which have snow-making facilities.

The Main Ski areas of Slovakia can be broken into two sections. The High and Low Tatram mountain ranges, which are located toward the north of Slovakia. Whereas the High Tatra mountains offer the greater altitudes in skiing, it is a common misconception that they therefore offer a better skiing experience because of this, and infact, the largely baron landscape of the High Tatra range means that it can often be less pleasurable then the Low Tatra region which has better tree coverage and the larger resorts in terms of both lifts and skiable area.

In the valley between the Belianske Tatras and the Spisska Magura mountain ranges, this village welcomes visitors looking for a taste of old Slovak folk culture and for excellent downhill skiing.

Donovaly is one of the biggest winter sports centres. It has been proclaimed as one of the best TOP skiing resorts in Slovakia. The mountain slopes on the Zvolen peak attract competent and enthusiastic skiers while Zahradiste in Dononvaly is better suited for family skiing outings.
