Swiss ski resorts offer spectacular scenery and unlike the purpose-built resorts of France, Swiss ski resorts have built up around mountain villages and offer a traditional atmosphere in which to enjoy the many ski holidays Switzerland has to offer.

The slopes of Switzerland are pretty impressive with some of the most challenging runs in the world. The old images of slow lifts, outdated cable cars and long queues are steadily being put firmly in the past as resorts invest again in their infrastructure.

Set high above the Rhone valley, Crans Montana offers 160kms of varied and challenging skiing and is an excellent resort with many facilities for people of all ages and interests. Originally two villages, Crans and Montana are now linked and the free bus service offers easy access to the numerous shops, sporting facilities and slopes. Five gondola links from different parts of the resort are the starting point for the well connected ski area, which is regularly host to world cup events.

Set amidst the spectacular scenery of the Jungfrau mountain range, with the breathtaking Eiger as their backdrop, Wengen and Grindelwald offer over 158kms of well marked pistes. The two charming villages remain totally unspoilt and boast a long tradition of hospitality and friendliness. The pretty traffic-free village of Wengen is accessed by a quaint mountain railway, whilst Grindelwald is dotted with chocolate box chalets, yet the centre has a bustling and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Verbier is justifiably famous as one of the most outstanding ski areas in Europe and lies high in a sunny, well-sheltered position in the heart of Switzerland's southern-most Alps. There’s a vast array of tempting shops, as well as many restaurants and lively bars. The ski area is vast, high and varied with over 400kms of runs (including Thyon, Veysonnaz and Nendaz) and a glacier at 3,330m, providing even the most proficient skier with an almost unlimited number of challenges.

Spectacularly situated beneath the majestic Matterhorn, Zermatt has everything to offer in the way of fantastic skiing, picturesque surroundings and a lively nightlife. On arrival by train from the village of Tasch, you will find the vibrant village centre entirely car free and with only electric taxis and horse drawn sleighs and streets packed with beautiful shops and boutiques.
