Skiing Holidays in Poland

The Tatras Mountains may not be as big as the Alps, however there is great skiing in resorts such as Zakopane in the Tatras Mountains.

Zakopane, Poland's premier mountain resort, is one of the country's most popular holiday destinations, both in the winter for ski-ing, and in the summer, for hiking and camping.

Zakopane lies in a big valley between the Tatra Mountains and Gubalowka Hill. It is the most important Polish centre of mountaineering and skiing, and is visited by about three million tourists annually. The most important alpine skiing locations are Kasprowy Wierch, Nosal and Gubalowka Hill.

Zakopane is a perfect destination for novice skiers and snowboarders to learn this sport. There are many beginner slopes located in the city centre. Zakopane has has ski rentals and ski schools with very well educated ski instructors.

Advanced skiers spending a ski holidays in Zakopane should try to get to Kasprowy Wierch. Kasprowy Wierch is the best slope in Zakopane for good skiers and snowboarders.

Zakopane is located by the Polish-Slovakian border, at the Tatra Mountains. It has good conections with all big Polish cities - you can reach Zakopane by train, bus, and car. The nearest international airports are in Poprad (south, Slovakia, 70 km from Zakopane) and Krakow (north, Poland, 110km.)

For skiers there are numerous ski-lifts, funicular on Gubalowka Hill and cable cabine railway on Kasprowy Wierch Mountain. The most frequented ski areas there are Kasprowy Wierch, Nosal, Szymoszkowa and Harenda.
