The Canary Islands are a group of seven major islands and six smaller islands in the Atlantic Ocean, lying between 60 - 190 miles off the Northwestern coast of Africa. Originally the Canaries were a destination for those seeking a warmer climate during the winter months, but the temperate climate, and development of the Tourist Industry now makes the Canaries an all year round Holiday destination.

Dominated by the snow-capped volcano of Mount Teide, which stands at 3,700mts high, the Canary Islands boast the tallest peak in Spain. Normally the first sight you see as you land at Reina Sofia Airport, Mount Teide effectively cuts the island into two sectors. The Northern half of this island paradise has a cooler climate, perfect for Palms and banana plantations, although cloudy days and even rain are normal here. The South in contrast, is hot and dry with an almost desert like landscape.
